Cantilever Rack Load Guide for Safe Storage
When it comes to storing long, heavy, or oddly shaped items, cantilever racks offer unmatched flexibility. But one thing that should never be left to guesswork is how much weight each arm or column can support. A reliable cantilever rack load calculation is the key to maintaining a safe and efficient warehouse.

In general, a single cantilever arm can support anywhere from 500 to 2,500 lbs, depending on the material, design, and spacing. Heavy-duty racks may support even more—up to 5,000 lbs per arm in industrial setups. However, these figures are highly dependent on arm length, thickness, column spacing, and the number of arms sharing the load.
For example, storing 20-foot-long steel pipes weighing 3,000 lbs each requires calculating not only the weight per arm but also how that weight is distributed across multiple arms. If each pipe is supported by three arms, each arm must handle about 1,000 lbs, not counting dynamic loads or safety margins.
Another critical factor is vertical spacing. The more levels you stack, the greater the total load on the uprights. A standard upright might hold up to 16,000–20,000 lbs, but only if properly anchored and evenly loaded.
