In terms of dimensions, a standard double deep racking system is designed to accommodate two pallets placed one behind the other. Each pallet typically has a depth of about 1.1 to 1.2 meters. Therefore, the overall depth of the rack (from the front of the first pallet to the back of the second pallet) is usually between 2.2 and 2.4 meters.

The width of each bay is generally around 2.7 to 2.8 meters. This width allows for two standard pallets to be stored side by side, each measuring approximately 1.2 meters wide, with a small allowance for clearance and maneuvering. The horizontal beams that support the pallets are also commonly 2.7 meters long.

Rack height can vary depending on the available ceiling height and the reach capabilities of the forklift equipment being used. Typical double deep racking installations range in height from 5 meters to as tall as 12 meters or more in high-bay warehouses.

Because this system requires forklifts to reach the second pallet behind the first, aisle widths must accommodate deep reach or telescopic forklifts. Recommended aisle widths typically range from 3.0 to 3.5 meters.

Overall, double deep racking provides an excellent balance between storage density and accessibility, especially in operations where inventory turnover is not extremely high.
